JB Chicago’s Mike Erickson

April 8th, 2009

SuburbanChicagoNews.com has a fun feature on JERSEY BOYS Chicago’s Mike Erickson, who plays a total of nine roles (including Billy Dixon) in the production!

There was a time in the mid-1990s when Mike Erickson caught some good-natured teasing while on the practice fields of Batavia High School.

On the gridiron, Erickson was the Bulldogs’ big, bad starting defensive end.But he also was equally comfortable playing drums in the halftime marching band, singing in the high school choir, performing in the jazz and swing bands, or singing and dancing in school performances of “Grease,” “Oklahoma” and “South Pacific.”

Erickson, 33, nowadays is a key member of the cast of the Chicago leg of “Jersey Boys,” the musical that takes audience members behind the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

It’s a grueling work schedule that would even impress Erickson’s old football coaches. He portrays nine characters during the production and not only sings, but also plays drums, bass and guitar. The cast performs eight shows a week.

“This show is incredible,” Erickson said, adding that after six years in New York, it’s nice to work close to home in a long-running production. “Life is pretty good. I love being in ‘Jersey Boys.’ I love telling this story every night.”
