Jersey Boys Continues to Dazzle Dallas!

August 1st, 2008

Critics all over Dallas are adoring Jersey Boys! Below are the latest raves!

Elaine Liner, Dallas Observer
: A great big Broadway smash called Jersey Boys hits the Music Hall at Fair Park and suddenly everything is all right again. Soaring on tunes about love, youth and yearning, this show flies right to the heart of what musical theater, big or small, should do. It moves. It grooves. It inspires the audience to roar and stomp and hoot with joy. The power of the thing is irresistible. It might be the closest you can get to a religious experience without a doxology or altar call…By the end, it was just a mad, continuous roar of appreciation for the songs, the singing, the everything that Jersey Boys offers as one of the rare perfect nights of American musical theater.

Arnold Wayne Jones, DallasVoice.com: The four leads, all unknowns, mimic the sound of the Four Seasons perfectly, especially button-cute Joseph Leo Bwarie’s Frankie falsetto. Even more charming is Andrew Rannells as Bob Gaudio. There aren’t many women in the show, but that doesn’t mean there’s no romance: The relationship between Bob and Frankie is one of the all-time great friendships, a partnership built wholly on a handshake and a genuine love for each other. That’s the core of the story and what elevates “Jersey Boys” above the average retro musical.

Terry Matthews, Sulphur Springs News-Telegram: There’s no mystery as to why “Jersey Boys” won four Tony Awards in 2006. If you came of age in the 1960s or 1970s, the show offers one of the best nights you could ever spend in a theater…By the time the music stopped, the Papazian’s rhythms had reached across the footlights and all the way to the top row of the balcony. The crowd roared in approval, jumped to a standing ovation and screamed at the top of their lungs. You’d have thought we were at a rock concert.
