Jersey Boys in London: Stephen Ashfield as Bob Gaudio

February 28th, 2008

Sarah Swain of the Evening Times has a terrific profile of Stephen Ashfield, a Glasgow actor who will take the stage tonight as Bob Gaudio in the London production of Jersey Boys!

Ashfield, 28, says it is all thanks to his school music teacher. The actor, who studied at Glasgow’s RSAMD, said he was “ecstatic” to win the role of band member and songwriter Bob Gaudio in the rags to riches tale. But he puts a lot of his success down to the start he got at Smithycroft Secondary, Carntyne, especially from Margaret Milton, head of music.

He noted, “When I was at school we had a brilliant music department and really encouraging staff. I got extra singing lessons and we used to put on shows twice a year. My teachers encouraged me to audition for RSAMD and that was where I got my degree.”

  1. We had the joy of seeing Jersey Boys in Tampa, Florida, last evening. We’re still walking on air & getting “emotional” all over again, at the memories of what we saw & heard. From the first time that I saw a cast of the show perform as guests on TV, I have wept every time. Such joy, energy, talent, etc., etc. I’ve ordered the original cast album today. Kudos to ALL involved in this work. BTW, we’re originally from New Jersey & may “get it” a bit more than some. We’d better stop quoting lines from the show to each other…!
