Jersey Boys Is Terrific in Toledo!

The 2 1/2-hour show is rich — gambling, crime, mob connections, jail time, numerous women, a lack of identity. The group members sitting atop four toilets for a weekend in a Cleveland jail garnered guffaws.
The Tony, Grammy, and Olivier Award-winning musical written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and directed by Des McAnuff correlates the life of the band with the four seasons of the year. Each member takes a turn telling his perspective.
Colby Foytik (DeVito) begins with spring and his relentless quest to find the right combination of voices. Jason Kappus (Gaudio) shares summer, when the group finally gets air time and record sales soar with back-to-back hits “Sherry,” Walk Like a Man,” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” Brandon Andrus (Massi) covers fall, telling about the collapse of the band and how it loses DeVito and Massi. Brad Weinstock (Valli) closes with winter, when he’s alone and trying to make it as a solo artist.
Near the end of the show each of the Four Seasons tells what he is up to now. Weinstock said Valli is still performing, drawing a comparison to the Energizer Bunny who keeps going and going. Don’t be surprised if Jersey Boys does that, too.
