LATE BREAKING NEWS: Jersey Boys Musical, Christian Hoff, & John Lloyd Young Among Drama League Award Nominees

Playbill.com’s Robert Simonson reports that The Drama League has announced the nominations for its 2006 awards for best play, musical, revival of a play and revival of a musical. The megahit musical Jersey Boys is among six shows nominated for the “Distinguished Production of a Musical” award. Other nominees include The Color Purple, The Drowsy Chaperone, Grey Gardens, See What I Wanna See and The Wedding Singer.

Additionally, Jersey Boys’ stars Christian Hoff and John Lloyd Young are among the approximately 70 performers who will be honored by taking a place on the dais at the ceremony. One performer will be awarded the “Distinguished Performance Award” at the ceremony.

Jersey Boys Director Des McAnuff will be one of three persons receiving a special award from the Drama League. McAnuff will be honored with the Julia Hansen Award for Excellence in Directing award.

Alan Cumming, who is currently in previews for the revival of The Threepenny Opera, will host the annual luncheon, which begins at Noon on May 5, 2005 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square.
