A Jersey Style Coaching Lesson for the Fighting Irish

March 11th, 2011

Jersey Boys LogoNews from the Associated Press: Notre Dame coach Mike Brey took his team to see the hit Broadway musical JERSEY BOYS this week, not for the culture or entertainment, but so the Fighting Irish could see what teamwork looks like in action.

“I wanted them to see the best actors and chemistry and how they play off one another,” Brey said.

They certainly did it to perfection Thursday night, with a big win 89-51 win over Cincinnati.

“When you have a performance like that, on this stage, that’s something I’m really proud of,” Brey said.

‘‘So we were like the Jersey Boys tonight. We were all doing our thing.’’

The Broadway performance was a first for San Antonio native Carleton Scott.

“I was excited. I had never been to a Broadway show. It was a good experience,” Scott said. “(Brey) said it before we even left South Bend, ‘I’m taking you guys to see Jersey Boys so you can see a team like that work together and feed off that kind of energy.’ That’s how our basketball team is.”
