According to Rick Elice, Jersey Boys Exists Because of Three Miracles!

May 9th, 2012

With JERSEY BOYS making a return visit to the Fox Theatre in Atlanta from May 22-June 10, Kristi Casey Sanders has a fabulous interview with JB co-writer Rick Elice, who explains how and why the show happened:

According to Jersey Boys’ co-creator Rick Elice, the show exists because of three miracles that took place between October 2003 and October 2004. The first: Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio gave Elice and writing partner Marshall Brickman permission to create a musical based on their lives using Four Seasons music. The second: Broadway director-producer Des McAnuff committed to the project before one line of dialogue had been written. And the third: Valli and Gaudio first saw the musical in a theater, surrounded by an enthusiastic audience, instead of in a barren rehearsal hall, where they might have been tempted to pull the plug on the whole project.

“The gods of theater were smiling on all of us when we were making this show,” Elice says.

**One of our fave followers on Twitter just made an excellent point: “4 miracles …. the 4th is the Rick Elice & Marshall Brickman partnership.” We couldn’t agree more!!

  2. I’m surprised that stubbleyou didn’t quip that Smokey Robinson wasn’t one of these particular Miracles. :)
