Andrew Rannells’ Reflections on Playing Bob Gaudio

June 16th, 2008

John Patrick Gatta of The Morning Journal has a preview story about Jersey Boys coming to the Playhouse Square Center’s State Theatre in Cleveland. Gatta spoke with Andrew Rannells, who plays Bob Gaudio in the JB national tour. Here’s a sneak peek of what Andrew has to say about playing the legendary songwriter:

Now, that he appears on the national touring stage as Gaudio, the group’s primary songwriter, he’s developed a deeper appreciation of the group. “That was a real education for me to realize how vast their songbook was. Bob Gaudio is an amazing songwriter. His sound was able to mature and his writing matured and kept up to date with what was happening around us.

“There’s something about that sound they created that people are attached to and have strong feelings about. It can instantly take people back to a specific time in their lives. It’s just amazing to watch audiences. At the end of the show everybody’s on their feet and dancing.”

  1. I saw Andrew in this role 6 times here in Houston. He is absolutely wonderful. His take on “Oh What a Night” is priceless.
