Bravos Continue in Boston for Jersey Boys!

August 3rd, 2009

Jersey Boys Logo The Boston critics keep popping up online with rave reviews for the JERSEY BOYS national tour. Here are the latest!

Nick Dussault, Metro.US: Every once in a while you get to see a show that’s so much fun you can’t wait to get home and tell everyone you know to buy their tickets right away. “Jersey Boys,” the Tony Award-winning musical currently playing to packed houses at the Shubert Theatre, is one of those toe-tapping, shoulder swaying, sing-along (though not too loudly) good times you don’t want to miss.

It may seem kind of corny and cliché to use as a headline and end a review of a musical with the title of one of the show’s most popular tunes. But when you leave the theater, it’s hard not to say “Oh What a Night!”

Juliet Pennington, The Sun Chronicle: When it opened on Broadway in 2005, “Jersey Boys” received rave reviews with critics’ comments ranging from “too good to be true” to “the crowd goes wild.”

It won Tony and Grammy awards and became one of the most popular musicals of all time, with seven productions currently up and running – including one that just opened in Boston.

Wednesday night’s performance at the Citi Performing Arts Center’s Shubert Theatre, where the popular musical is playing through the end of September, lived up to the critics’ praise.

The show’s ensemble was strong and the staging brilliant, with quick, effortless and very creative set changes. One minute the audience was in a smoky nightclub, the next at “The Ed Sullivan Show” (with real black and white footage streaming across large, suspended screens high above the back of the stage).

The musical build-ups, lighting and energy made it feel, at times, like a real concert. It’s definitely a show not to be missed.
