British Actor Ryan Molloy May ‘Walk Like A Man’ in London?

August 24th, 2007

Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail reports that actor Ryan Molloy will fly to New York in the next week or two to meet with singer Frankie Valli and singer-composer Bob Gaudio. They have approval of who will portray the young Frankie in the musical Jersey Boys when it hits the Prince Edward Theatre in London in late February. Molloy hasn’t signed a deal yet to play Valli, but if he gets the nod from the real Valli and Gaudio, Bamigboye guesses the role will be his. The show’s director Des McAnuff wants him, as do other members of the creative team.

According to the reporter, what makes it work so well is that McAnuff goes for actors who can act and sing (he doesn’t want names who can’t do either), plus the book, written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, is a work of art. If the folks behind Jersey Boys look after the show properly, it’ll have a run as long as Mamma Mia!

  1. Excellent! If Ryan is chosen for the part of Frankie, I’m hoping that John Lloyd Young will remain as the lead for the OBC! Only thing bumming me out would be if the Pal Joey revival goes on and Christian Hoff leaves Broadway.

In any case, I’m crossing my fingers for Ryan to be successful during tryouts and get that callback for casting!

  4. I think it would be fantastic for British audiences to enjoy the JLY experience as Frankie. It’ll certainly give the show the best possible start. Come over John!
