Christian Hoff Shares What He Loves About NYC
May 11th, 2007In Broadway.com’s My New York feature, stage stars share what they love about New York City!
Christian Hoff won a Tony Award for playing Jersey Boys tough guy Tommy DeVito, but the actor is actually a soft-hearted dad of three offstage. He made his Broadway debut in The Who’s Tommy and has appeared in such diverse shows as Jesus Christ Superstar (on Broadway), The Rocky Horror Show (in Los Angeles), Violet (off-Broadway), Merry Wives of Windsor, Texas (in Cincinnati) and The Music Man (when he was 10). Born in San Francisco, Hoff was raised in San Diego, but now he calls the Big Apple home. Here’s a short preview of Christian’s thoughts on the Big Apple:
Q: What is your quintessential New York meal, and where would you eat it?
A: Italian food at Frank DeCarlos restaurant Peasant.
Q: What is your favorite neighborhood and why?
A: I like the Upper West Side for Central and Riverside Parks, Lincoln Center, the restaurants, the schools and lots of families.
Q: Is there something you’ve always wanted to do in New York, but have not yet accomplished?
A: Take the whole family to Ellis Island and see my Dad’s name on the wall.
Each time I see the show, I’m still amazed at the transformation of the tough-talking Tommy DeVito with the huge stage presence into the caring and generous Christian Hoff at the stage door 15 minutes later. Christian, you’ve been a great role model and positively impacted a lot of lives since your return to New York nearly two years ago–including mine.

I certainly agree with Howard. The kind, generous man at the stage door who personally greets each admiring fan is the antithesis of his streetwise Tommy DeVito…and both are quite entertaining! Christian, please know that the time you devote to your fans both on and offstage is appreciated!

The two previous comments prove what a great actor Christian is. And yes, he definitely CAN make it anywhere! Loved the feature, and especially loved the picture. We don’t get to see enough of those beautiful blond curls.
As always, thank you Susie for keeping us in the know:)
