Cory Grant’s Reflections on Being an Actor

October 3rd, 2008

Jack Bess of the Evanston Review has a terrific interview with Cory Grant, who took over the role of Frankie Valli in the Chicago production of Jersey Boys last Saturday.

Grant, 29, stated, “A year ago, I didn’t even have my (Actors) Equity Card, but they threw me right into the lions’ den and it’s been the greatest experience of my life.”

Reflecting on his time as playing the matinee Frankie on Broadway, Grant said, “When I was working in New York, after the show, these 50- and 60-year-old men from New Jersey come up to you with tears in their eyes as they’re shaking your hand. To have these huge men so moved by something, it’s an honor to be part of that. A lot of them explain that they grew up in that time and they thank me for helping them relive such a golden age in their childhood. It’s so personal.”

  1. Wait a minute…Are you not the same Cory Grant that was my advisee at Washburne and who entertained the advisory every ingle single afternoon up there on the third floor with your singing dancing routines? And did you not also do a lot of singing/dancing/acting in Mod Com? OH YEAH!! Tons of congratulations from one of your earliest fans.

My family and I caught your performance this past Saturday, you were amazing. I’m one of those old guys who grew up listening to the Four Seasons in the Newark area back then. Many thanks to you and all of the cast, the best show I’ve ever seen.

  6. CL-I was just looking at the JB website and noticed Cory had left. When did he leave and can you give me the name of his new show? Will it be in NYC? I’m slightly obsessed. I LOVE HIM! He’s the only Frankie for me.
