Courter Simmons–From Milpitas to NYC

June 13th, 2009

Courter Simmons

In the Milpitas Post, W. Fred Crow has a story on Courter Simmons, who hit the high notes as Frankie Valli on last Sunday’s Tony Awards telecast. Here’s a preview of the story:

Sunday, during the 2009 Tony Awards, you heard him croon a solo from Frankie Valli’s iconic hit, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” He was part of a quintet of lead singers assembled from five productions of “The Jersey Boys,” representing the national tour.

His feet may be on a Broadway stage and on the JERSEY BOYS national tour, his face on national television, and his voice recorded, but Courter Simmons has his roots deep in Milpitas.

The California native began performing with the Milpitas Rainbow Theater, our own local children’s theater group. Seemingly, right out of a Hollywood movie, a musical director from American Musical Theatre San Jose heard him sing in rehearsal and hired him for a child’s role in their production of “Evita.” He has been hitting the high notes ever since.

  1. I saw Mr. Simmons as a youth in Milpitas Rainbow Theatre and I knew if he stuck with it he could be a star. Well done- go Milpitas.
