Critic Says Don’t Miss Jersey Boys in Providence!

May 21st, 2010

Jersey Boys LogoDon Fowler of the Warwick Beacon states that in his 35 years of covering everything that has graced the Providence Performing Arts Center stage, he can emphatically state that he enjoyed “Jersey Boys” more than anything he has ever seen there, and that includes a multitude of musicals.

Why is “Jersey Boys” so good? According to Fowler, It is fresh, original, filled with a talented cast, splendidly written and directed and loaded with some of the greatest rock and roll songs of the ’60s.

Fowler notes that he has seen dozens of musicals and movies about obscure entertainers who rise to fame and fortune, encountering a variety of ups and downs along the way. “Jersey Boys” follows the same theme. The difference is in the telling and showing. We see the story unfold through the eyes of the main characters.

And it is very funny, with quick, sharp quips, references to the ’60s and a few lines that cause the audience to applaud spontaneously.
