Erich Bergen on Playing Bob Gaudio
February 2nd, 2007Carole Barrow of SFDowntown.com has a terrific interview with Erich Bergen, Jersey Boys national tour’s Bob Gaudio.
When asked about playing Gaudio, Bergen said,
The role itself is very similar to me. He was a music geek, I was the same way, always asking for instruments and soundboards for Christmas…and of course, I’m from New York, a short distance from New Jersey.
Portraying Gaudio rather than the group’s most famous member, Frankie Valli has its advantages. Bergen stated,
It gave me a lot of freedom to develop the part because he doesn’t have a public persona like [Valli] does, but it also was scary, because I had to define a character, start from scratch. Whoever plays Frankie already has a template. They really have to imitate him.
Check out the whole interview on SFDowntown.com.
I’ve just watched JLY’s Ask A Star video, and it was cut off when he was finishing answering a question. Is that just on my computer? Or was this a mistake on Broadway.com’s part?
Thanks.

Sara, my computer did the same thing. He was answering the question about what other celebrity he would play and the answer was cut off. Maybe Broadway.com will fix it.

The end of the interview was also cut off when I watched it. (looked like 97% downloaded) Interesting questions and answers though!

My computer cut off at the very beginning when it downloaded just 4%, and he was beginning to answer what other career he would have. Glad to see I’m not alone.
