Four Stars for Four Seasons Story in Toronto!

May 8th, 2010

Theatre Critic Rachael-Lea Rickards gives JERSEY BOYS in Toronto four out of four stars! Here’s a preview of her magnificent review:

I have to admit however, when I first heard about Jersey Boys, I thought “what exactly am I going to like about this play? This is for old people. I can’t relate to this music, I’m going to snore my way through it.” In the opening act, I found myself crossing my arms and having the “you better be good” type attitude. Very quickly, my arms unfolded and I was swept away by the magic they call Jersey Boys.

The story has a universal feel. It’s about 4 young men wishing to live beyond their circumstances. Four dreamers, singing on a street corner with the hopes of one day making it BIG.

The show promises not to disappoint. The choreography was clean and the lighting fantastic. The use of flying objects like lamposts and microphones that rose from the floor as well as the effortless scene changes by cast and crew were incredible.

I realize, part of the attraction of Jersey Boys is the tunes the audience loved and could sing along to, some may say that’s a easy way of getting audiences to love a production, I say that’s a smart way. I personally wanted to jump out of my seat when “Big Girls Don’t Cry” rang out like an anthem throughout the theatre.

Do I recommend Jersey Boys? Absolutely. It’s an experience. I encourage more young people to head out and see it as well. This story captivates all that see it. It’s alive, energetic, fun and tells the true story of struggle to success.

  1. Its everything you said and more. So happy its been extended until Sept. Anyone who hasn’t seen it is really missing out. I’m glad you mentioned the strong performances of Jeff & Quinn. Amazing voices. But everyone does an amazing job.
