Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons’ Songs That Hit It Big In the UK, But Not In the US

October 29th, 2010

Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons had an impressive string of hits in the UK, including “December 1963 (Oh, What A Night) going to #1 in 1976 and nine Top 10 hits.

Four songs in particular became UK smash hits that didn’t hit it big in the US:

  • Valli’s solo, “You’re Ready Now,” which was released in the US in 1966, but never charted, peaked at #11 on the British chart in 1970.
  • In 1972, The Four Seasons released “The Night” in the US without it even making the chart, but this song was a smash hit, peaking at #7 on the UK chart in 1975.
  • Valli’s amazing ballad, “Fallen Angel” stalled at #36 on the US Hot 100 chart, while it proved to be a solid British hit at #11 on the chart in 1976.
  • Following “Oh, What A Night” topping the charts in both countries, the Seasons released “Silver Star” in the spring of 1976 from the “Who Loves You” album, with lead vocals by drummer Gerry Polci. In the US, the song peaked at #38 on the Hot 100, while it skyrocketed to #3 on the UK chart.
