Frankie Valli’s Reflections on Career and Jersey Boys
September 30th, 2007Theater critic Chris Jones has an in-depth feature on Frankie Valli in today’s Chicago Tribune. Jones talks to Valli, in addition to Bob Gaudio, about the creation and phenomenal success of Jersey Boys and their career’s ups and downs over the last 50 years. Jones has also included interesting insights from Des McAnuff and Rick Elice about the Tony Award-winning musical.
Here’s a sneak peek of the what Valli and Gaudio had to say:
Valli: “I had a lot of years of success with touring, recording, personal appearances, acting. Really, ‘Jersey Boys’ is just the icing on the cake. And if I didn’t have it? I think I’d still be singing in some seedy bar with some guy playing piano.”
Gaudio: And what of the part in the show where he seems to abandon Valli? “I truly felt at the time that it was best for the partnership if I left. I wasn’t the attraction. I really felt I was wasting my time and part of Frankie’s time. God knows, he didn’t miss my presence on the stage from an entertaining perspective.”

Great article on Frankie! Looking forward to seeing the original group on November 9th and Jersey Boys (Chicago) on Nove. 3 and 30th. Loved the one in New York (saw it twice). When is the movie coming out?
