August 1st, 2012

Jersey Boys Logo According to MovieHole.Net, director Jon Favreau’s “Jersey Boys”, based on the stage musical of the same name, has begun casting.

The flick, penned by “Gladiator” scribe John Logan, will shoot January 2013 in New York and New Jersey. Producers are currently out to fill the key roles. Here’s how they’re describing the “Frankie Valli” character:

FRANKIE VALLI: 20-29 yrs old. 5 ft 8 or under, Italian-American. A small, tenacious, scrappy kid from a tough neighborhood with an unusually high, clear falsetto, Frankie is desperate to join the group that becomes the Four Seasons. Talented, hardworking and determined to succeed, the group takes off once he joins. He is fiercely loyal, but his strong moral compass starts to stray during his years on tour with the popular group. ABILITY TO SING TENOR PART AND STRONG FALSETTO UP TO A TREBLE G A PLUS. LEAD.

  1. Well I know it is a long shot, but I’d pick Dominic Scaglione for Frankie, not only does he have a fantastic voice he also has the right look and from what I have seen he has a lot of talent.

  5. I’ll have to agree with Kay. Dominic Scaglione, Jr. is a real Jersey boy who could bring total authenticity to the big screen. All the Frankie’s are fantastic that I’ve seen so far, but Scaglione’s portrayal was really special.

  7. John Lloyd Young is the only actor who should play Mr. Valli in the Movie version of Jersey Boys! He has the look, the charm and the voice, really everything that they are looking for.

  9. I went back to look at the poll that was taken on this blog to see who received the most votes for Frankie in the movie. Jarrod overwhelmingly won by landslide so I guess we know who the majority wants to see!

  10. Looks like John Lloyd Young’s return to Broadway is timed perfectly to remind them of why he won the Tony and to show them that he’s still got it, which he definitely does.

But a strong falsetto for Frankie is only “a plus?” Not a requirement? I find that mildly disturbing…

  13. I beg to differ with you gentlemen (ladies)….

For Jersey Boys to succeed as a “major” movie it needs a cast of either establised or up and coming screen actors.

While a good play needed theatrical people, a movie is a different medium and requires people with screen power.

I have no idea who should be in it, but, I see this movie as something similar to “Ray” or “Walk The Line”..two award winners.

If the movie is a re-vised stage performance then it will be just that.

    Just sayin’.

  16. Well if they use a movie actor who can’t sing I’s say use Joseph Leo Bwarie for the voice overs, his voice is incredible and he started doing that type of work when he was a small child. In fact he would be great in the movie.

  17. Has to be Jarrod Spector

  18. “FRANKIE VALLI: 20-29 yrs old.” Almost all of the actors mentioned above are over 29 and look too old to pass for 29 or younger. An actor who is nearly 40 can get away with playing a young Frankie on stage; not so in a film, where close-ups on large screens can make an actor’s face look like it’s the size of a small car. The only actor mentioned so far who has the acting and vocal chops for the role, AND who looks young enough for the part, is Joseph Leo Bwarie. However, I fear that all of the gentlemen who have played Frankie on stage may be overqualified for the movie role, since the “ABILITY TO SING TENOR PART AND STRONG FALSETTO UP TO A TREBLE G” is merely “A PLUS” rather than a requirement! :\ (I’m only halfway kidding there…..)
