Happy 50th Birthday to ‘Sherry’ by The Four Seasons!

August 25th, 2012

Fifty years ago today, on August 25, 1962, “Sherry” by The Four Seasons debuted in the number 65 position on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart! The song, written in 15 minutes by Bob Gaudio, was released on the Vee Jay label and produced by Bob Crewe.

Is it purely a coincidence today that there is an open call in NYC for casting the roles of The Four Seasons in the JERSEY BOYS movie by GK Films? Was it planned to commemorate the anniversary of “Sherry” hitting the Billboard chart? Or, maybe–”it’s a SIGN”?!

What about your first memories of hearing “Sherry”? Were you a kid who first heard it on the radio when it was climbing the charts? Did somebody at school tell you about some great new song? Did you hear it for the first time massive years later when your parents turned on their favorite oldies station in the car? Or, maybe you didn’t hear it until you discovered JERSEY BOYS?! We’d love it if you’d share your recollections of the first time you heard the sound of SHERRY!

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be saluting “Sherry” and her 50 fabulous years!

  2. Anybody know if that is one of those newfangled turntables that generates mp3 files from vinyl?

    Pretty decent sounding copy.

  3. I was in St. Mary’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ in Oct., 1962 with a 17-year old roommate who played WABC radio (Cousin Brucie) day and night, and of course, “Sherry” was played over and over, and the rest, as they say, is history. Sadly, after “Jersey Boys” came into my life, I tried to reach my hospital roommate of 30+ yrs ago to invite him to JB, but sadly, found that he had died in 1993.

The memory I most remember from that hospital stay, though, is a nurse telling me, “You’re lucky there’s a Chubby Checker now; when I was young, it was just ‘chubby’”!!
