Happy Holidays–JB Vegas Style!
January 2nd, 2011In the words of Nick Massi in JERSEY BOYS, “Sometimes it just clicks with people.†That’s probably the best way to describe last Sunday night’s full house holiday crowd at JB Vegas at The Palazzo! Insane cheers for the big hits, belly laughing moments, some tears, and more than a few showstoppers!
So many high points on the stage during that holiday evening–including Colin Trahan playing Nick Massi! During his JBB EXCLUSIVE Interview over two years ago, Colin mentioned how much he enjoyed being understudy for the role. Regarding Nick, Colin stated, “I love his quiet and his solitude in the first act, and in the end, I love when he goes crazy.”
Colin absolutely NAILED it as Nick–from the minute he walked on stage, with his quiet quirkiness and impeccable comedic timing on lines such as, “In one month we’re the Romans, the Village Voices, the f*cking Andrew Sisters. What’re you trying to do?”
Nick may have been quiet–until it was his season. In fall, during the sit-down scene, Colin’s explosion was seismic!!
As always, Deven May had the audience completely mesmerized from the moment he told them, “…I’m the guy you wanna talk to, because this whole thing started with me.” Deven had the perfect combination of charisma, charm, and confidence, as well as some great dance moves as the bad boy organizer of the group.
Amazing to think it was over three years ago that we saw Rick Faugno in the Frankie Valli role for the first time–at the JB San Francisco holiday engagement. Back then, he was spot on in his new role–as he went from the hopeful kid with the phenomenal voice to the successful entertainer who is still chasing the music. Three years later, Rick not only shines with his powerful vocals throughout the show, but channels Valli’s innocence and perseverance and captures the singer’s later years as a true survivor. Last Sunday’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” stopped the show THREE times: massive applause the minute Rick began singing “You’re just too good…”; when Frankie’s horns came out; and a standing ovation and nonstop cheers at the end!
We were in for an unexpected treat after the fabulous show–meeting Rick Faugno’s Dad! Turns out, Mr. Faugno is an avid reader of Jersey Boys Blog and the JBB Forum! In fact, Mr. Faugno even mentioned some of the frequent posters on the Forum! That was priceless

That sounds like a fun night! I’ve seen Colin as Nick a couple times and he’s great. Did you happen to compliment Rick’s dad on his dancing moves from Rick’s first show? Now that was a treat to see! This really makes me look forward to my next Vegas trip! You’ll have to join me, Susie.

Krystal, sorry to say I missed Rick’s first one-man show–so I missed his dad’s dance moves! Hope his dad will give a repeat performance…
