High Praise for JLY in Les Miserables!

August 10th, 2008

Los Angeles Times’ David Ng Les Misérables’ notes that the best part of the Les Miserables production at the Hollywood Bowl is the hot young co-stars. Here’s what Ng says about JLY:

As Marius, the young revolutionary who falls in love with Valjean’s daughter, John Lloyd Young brought intelligence and vocal warmth to a role that can often feel corny and insipid.

The review also includes a terrific photo of John Lloyd and his co-star Lea Michele.

  1. Congratulations John, I always knew you could play Marius, the part is perfect for you. Thank goodness for the clips, I get to hear your beautiful voice over and over :)
I’m so sorry I didn’t get to go, I know I missed something very special.

I’m so happy for you, what a weekend you had!

Take care, see you soon….Jody :)

  3. So happy for JLY; he did a great job and this review not only validates his versatility, but should really assure him personally of how much he’s capable of!

And JLY was clearly the hit of the stage door. He came out the same time as Brian Stokes Mitchell, and everyone except Brian’s wife was there for JLY. Several of us did note that BSM was looking around for someone to speak with, and we did accommodate him!! (BSM was also great as Javert!)

  4. JLY….I was lucky my sis, who was in the show, allowed me to see him during rehearsals. JLY, you are far too talented!

  5. CONGRATULATIONS on a beautiful, sensitive, and touching performance as “Marius”! We all knew you would be fantastic, and you most certainly did not disappoint. Bravo!

Excellent performances as well, all around, from the entire cast. :)

  7. There was never a doubt in anyone’s mind that you would “SHINE” as Marius. Your greatness exudes in every individual role you play and in everything you are as a person, John. IE

  10. John,
I’m so glad things went well! :) I really wish I could’ve seen your performance, but I think Amanda’s great reviews made me feel like I was there! Your voice is so…so…magnificent. Absolutely wonderful. I can’t describe it. I wish I had a voice like that. Maybe I could take a few pointers from you for my choir class this year in school. :)
Anyway, enjoy your success because you deserve it. I’m sure I’ll see you perform one of these days….

  11. The entire show was fabulous and JLY portrayed an excellent “Marius” with his dark, good looks and beautiful voice. He shone throughout the entire concert. I’m so glad that he had an opportunity to perform in one of the greatest musicals of all time!

All the performers were fantastic and it was really special to see the show at the famed Hollywood Bowl.

JLY definitely had the biggest supporters at the stage door! As always, he was very gracious and generous with his time with every individual who wanted an autograph or photo…thanks, JLY, it was so great to see you and talk to you!

    You rock!

  12. John Lloyd, such well-deserved high praise. It’s nice to know that the rest of the country (at least the west coast!) has finally realized the talent you possess, and what a gracious performer you are! Your JB fans have known it from the beginning…your audience at the Allen Room concert also were clued in…and now the LA crowd has experienced the magic. The smile on your face in the pictures from rehearsals says it all:) Enjoy!

  16. JLY must know how much he is missed on Broadway. Any chance of a Jersey Boys original cast re-union? The show could use it.

  17. JLY may have had his break-out role on the Broadway stage as a Jersey Boy, but he’ll continue to prove, no doubt, that he belongs on all types of stages… from sea to shining sea.

(As a fourth of July birthday guy, that reference just seemed to fit :) ; but honestly, I wouldn’t limit his future- except for the sake of his current fans- to one continent.)

  18. In his performance in Les Mis JLY showed a depth of character that proved that JB is not a one-time role of a lifetime. JLY is capable of anything! He brought Marius to life through words action and song that was believeable, in the same way he convinced the audience that he was Frankie Valli. Unlimited talent, charm and charisma. Truly a great night at the Bowl, I felt lucky to be in the audience. All of the actors were wonderful, but of course I had my eye on one person in particular :-) JLY what is next?
