Honolulu Mayor Wants to Bring JB to Town!

December 10th, 2007

In an article on KHNL.com, reporter Leland Kim noted that more than 180,000 people saw The Lion King at the Neal Blaisdell Center. It grossed close to $15 million, and pumped $45 million to the local economy.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann said The Lion King’s success shows Hawaii can host a major Broadway musical.

“Certainly this has taken us a major step forward because people know now that we are capable of having such a production in Hawaii,” he said.

The mayor hopes to bring other hit shows to Honolulu. Top on his list is Jersey Boys!

  1. Wow, wouldn’t this be great, especially if Chris Kale Jones could return to his homeland? When I was in Honolulu on business a few weeks back, I had a taxi driver that knew of CKJ and his theatrical abilities. (And he REALLY did know of Chris–wasn’t just trying for a larger tip.) Chris is also a great PR guy for the show, and will generate enormous goodwill. Finally, the unusual pronunication of Kale (Kah–lay, instead of the vegetable) makes for a good conversation starter.
