JB Tour Updates: Toronto, UK, & Vegas

March 27th, 2007

Toronto: Today’s edition of the TorontoStar.com notes that it was only yesterday that Aubrey Dan revealed his Dancap Productions had acquired the rights to the hit musical Jersey Boys and had made a firm offer to present it at the Toronto Centre for the Arts for six months. However, the Centre’s management board was insisting on delaying its decision until May 15 so that a “risk assessment report” could help them determine whether or not to accept his proposal. Only one thing is clear: Jersey Boys will be coming to Toronto. But whether it’s in July 2008 at the Toronto Centre for the Arts or January 2009 at the Elgin Theatre, only time will tell. Check out the TorontoStar.com for all the details.

London: As reported earlier, British producer Cameron Mackintosh is planning to host a London version of the Broadway hit Jersey Boys next year. London’s Daily Mail states that since Lloyd Webber’s Adelphi Theatre was deemed to have architectural and stage-size problems, Mackintosh’s Prince Edward Theatre has moved into pole position for the award-winning show. It is thought the Prince Edward Theatre’s current show, Mary Poppins, will embark on a U.K. tour next year, allowing Jersey Boys to move into the venue in March 2008.

Las Vegas: Just a brief update from Las Vegas. In a “Best of Vegas” story, Las Vegas Review-Journal’s entertainment reporter Mike Weatherford asks: What will it take to be the best down the road? He states, “The hit Broadway musical Jersey Boys sounds like a lock for the new tower at The Venetian.”
