Glaston Toft plays Nick Massi in the JERSEY BOYS Australia cast

We are excited to present our latest interview in our series of JBB Exclusive Interviews with the JERSEY BOYS Australia cast! Today’s interview is with Glaston Toft, who has been playing the role of Nick Massi since the the JB Oz company began back in 2009.

Jersey Boys Blog: What attracted you to audition for Jersey Boys and tell us about your journey so far with the show?

Glaston Toft: I didn’t know a lot about the show when I first auditioned, just that it had had massive success and should be some good solid work. And it turns out I was right, my journey first started in February 2009 when we launched the Australian leg of the show on stage in Las Vegas, and we’re still going almost four years later.

JBB: Has this show been similar or different to others that you’ve done in your past?

GT: Well I think Jersey Boys is unlike ANY other show. I’d done jukebox musicals before, but the amazing story behind the incredible music makes for a truly knockout show.

JBB: Is it hard to do the Jersey dialect and had you done it before with your other roles?

GT: Believe it or not, there isn’t a huge demand for the New Jersey dialect here in Australia. But it’s quite an infectious accent, so it wasn’t hard to pick up. And, it was a good excuse to rewatch the box set of “The Sopranos.”

JBB: What about your favorite moments in Jersey Boys?

GT: The handshake scene has always been one of my favorites. There is something about mateship and being a man of your word that seems to resonate with an Australian psyche. And I love just being on stage watching that moment happen every night.

JBB: Since joining the Jersey Boys Australia company, what have you learned about yourself that you didn’t know before?

GT: It’s possible to do the same thing every night more than 1,000 times over and not go coo coo ca choo.

  1. Thanks JBB for posting the interviews with our wonderfully talented Aussie cast. ‘The Jersey Boys’ is a fantastic production and I’ve loved it every time I’ve attended. It doesn’t matter how many times one sees the show, with each new night it truly feels as though you are seeing it again for the first time.

What a great achievement for Glaston to have been with this cast from the very beginning, he surely has made the role of ‘Nick Massi’ his very own. For him to have performed this role on more than a thousand occasions and still love going out onto the stage night after night to repeat the performance is pure testimony of his sheer dedication to professional theatre. Well done Glaston!!!!

  4. I can never get enough of watching Glaston as Nick Massi. He has incredible musicality – his vocal tone is so smooth and bass lines are so solid and distinctive crucial for the harmonic structure.
His characterisation of Nick Massi has so obviously been studied in detail (done to simple mannerisms) and therefore Glaston always delivers a truly believable and extremely loveable character.
    Can never get enough!

  5. Great interview Glaston. I have seen the show countless times and have followed it to Brisbane and Adelaide and will be heading to Melbourne to see it again on the weekend.

Glaston is my favourite in the role of Nick Massi. He does a supreme job and appears to be very comfortable in the role. He has a beautiful voice and I agree with Vanessa regarding his vocal tone.

I think it would be such a shame if the producers of the movie (which I understand is being considered at the moment) do not consider Glaston for the role of Nick Massi as he would be excellent.

You can never have too much Jersey Boys.
