More phenomenal reviews for the JERSEY BOYS national tour in Detroit! Here’s a preview of the two latest!

Bill Holdship, MetroTimes.com: It took a long time for Jersey Boys, the Tony-winning Broadway musical about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, to finally hit Detroit — four years after its Broadway debut, to be exact, and three years after its first touring company hit the road. Often when a touring production is already this long in the tooth, audiences can expect a somewhat watered-down version of the original. But, happily, the Jersey Boys currently at the Fisher is a triumphant theatrical (and pop music) experience.

Bottom line: Jersey Boys is a great show, full of great fun. It never taxes the audience’s intelligence like so many other recent Broadway spectacles. And it’s full of great music, especially after the midpoint of the first act when all those Bob Gaudio hits kick in. What’s not to love?

Ron’s Random Musings from Ann Arbor: This blogger states that he can’t recall a cast and production of a Broadway tour to hit Detroit that is this excellent from top to bottom. JERSEY BOYS is the ticket for a cold winter night in Motown, and it’s proving to be a huge audience favorite.

According to this bloger, it’s the best tour he has seen come through Detroit in 15 years. And he wonders why it took so long to get here — it’s a perfect fit for a blue-collar town, and the sound created by Frankie and the Four Seasons draws as much on Motown as it does the Jersey beat.

Highly recommended – even if you have seen it already. This is something special – and it’s guaranteed to get you out of your seat and feeling really fine on the way home. And that feeling lasts for days. The line at the souvenir stand attests to this, as happy Detroiters snap up copies of the Original Broadway Cast Album of Jersey Boys on the way out the door. It’s that kind of show. You want to take it with you.

  1. So nice to see such wonderful reviews for the national tour in Detroit. I particularly enjoyed Bill Holdship’s comments about Joseph Leo Bwarie…too bad Mr. Holdship misspelled Joe’s last name! Keep on rockin’ Detroit, Jersey Boys!

  2. We who have seen this show (some of us as often as we can, wherever we can) are not surprised by the success in Detroit. Congrats to the best touring show cast ever!

  4. I had the pleasure of being in the audience at the January 10th matinee in Detroit. The entire cast was incredible, but Joseph Leo Bwarie took my breath away. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.
