November 22nd, 2008

August Wilson Theatre

News from Jersey Boys: The Broadway production of the international hit musical Jersey Boys now offers ShowTrans, a state-of-the-art customer service that provides multi-lingual “play-by-play” commentary of a theatrical production for the non-English speaking audience. ShowTrans gives the patrons continual plot and dialogue information that enables them to follow the action, intention, humor, and emotion of the show. Commentary for Jersey Boys is available in Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and German.

Here’s some more information about ShowTrans: ShowTrans receivers are available at the theatre just prior to the performance. The cost is $10.00 (US). ShowTrans accepts most major credit cards and traveler’s checks. Patrons must present proper identification (drivers license, passport, etc.) as deposit in order to pick up the receiver, which must be returned at the end of the performance. ShowTrans can be reserved in advance of the performance by calling (212) 582-7678, or orders may be faxed to (212) 265-1250.

ShowTrans is a program created and serviced by Sound Associates, and sponsored in part by Global Patron Accessibility to Special Services, or G-PASS, an organization dedicated to using technology to make theatre accessible for those who may otherwise not be able to enjoy it. The proceeds from ShowTrans help to fund programs for the blind, the deaf, and the hearing impaired. For more information on ShowTrans or any of the G-PASS programs, call toll-free: 1 (888) 876-0801.

  1. GREAT NEWS!!
I’m Japanese. I loved, loved Jersey Boys! But I have to say that lines are not easy for non-English speakers. I know the book is very well written. For non-English speakers, however, slangs and subtle nuances make the story a little difficult to keep up with. So I didn’t recommend my friends with average or lower English skill to see JB despite the fact that everyone here knows Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Sherry or Bye Bye Baby.
From now on, thanks to Show Trans, I can recommend everyone who’s going to NY to see Jersey Boys without any hesitation.
