Jersey Boys Cast Recording Remains at Number Two on the Billboard Chart

October 8th, 2010

Jersey Boys LogoNews from Playbill.com’s PlayBlog: The Grammy-winning, RIAA Certified Platinum JERSEY BOYS Original Broadway Cast Recording has remained in the Number Two position on the Billboard Top Cast Album chart during the entire month of September, as well as for the first week in October.

Along with the fifth year anniversary of JERSEY BOYS on Broadway next month, the award-winning JB OBCR is soon to be celebrating five years on the Billboard chart.

Picture this–early November 2005–the JERSEY BOYS Original Broadway Cast Recording arrived in my mailbox from Amazon–about two weeks before seeing the show on Broadway. Although we had a great preview in the fall of 2004 of JERSEY BOYS’ showstopping story and timeless music at La Jolla Playhouse, playing the future Grammy-winner for the first time turned out to be the best commute EVER! Nearly five years later, it’s still the best part of the morning routine! I can’t imagine a morning without cranking up the “Who Loves You” finale–and the JBB Tech Half attempting to hit that last high note!

Let’s go back to the very first time you heard this phenomenal recording! We’d love for you to share stories about the first time you heard the JB OBCR!

  1. I saw JB more than once at La Jolla with my theater buddy. After the second time we saw it, she said if it went to Broadway, we were going, and we did. We were at the August Wilson in November 2005. After a wonderful Saturday evening show, how could there be a better way to unwind than listening to the JB OBCR in our hotel room!! And I believe we listened to it more than once before we finally went to sleep. After all, we had to get some rest so we’d be ready for the Sunday matinee.

  3. November 17, 2005 was the first time I heard the JB OBCR . . . although I didn’t realize that at the time. I was at Tower Records at Lincoln Center for the JB CD cast signing. I got there about an hour and a half early, and no one was there. I thought I had the wrong date, but a clerk there assured me people would eventually show up. I bought the CD so I could have it signed and then after reading the song list, I realized that the music playing over the store’s sound system was THE JB cast recording. It was played non-stop..and I kept hearing songs that I knew…but didn’t know they were Four Seasons’ songs (I’m just a little younger than they are!) It was a wonderful day. I met the cast and Bob Gaudio & won tickets to see the show & was invited backstage by the cast. I also got a wonderful picture with “the boys” at the very beginning of their life-changing journey! Check out my purse at the 5th year anniversary weekend, lol!
