Jersey Boys Fabulous at Fisher Theatre!

December 24th, 2009

Jersey Boys LogoMore rave reviews keep popping up all over Detroit for the JERSEY BOYS national tour. Check out excerpts from the two latest:

Donald V. Calamia, The anticipation has been building for the arrival of the long-awaited Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys, which opened recently at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre. Just how hyped up was the hype? The answer became clear after the first few bars of Sherry electrified the audience: Jersey Boys, the last show to be reviewed in 2009, is simply and honestly the best and most satisfying show of the year – bar none!

But it’s the performers and musicians who are the true stars of the show. As The Four Seasons, Joseph Leo Bwarie (Valli), Matt Bailey (DeVito), Josh Franklin (Gaudio) and Steve Gouveia (Nick Massi) are all excellent storytellers who create interesting and unique personalities – without resorting to impersonations. But more importantly, they consistently deliver superb harmonies. One of their many showstoppers is the act one trilogy of beloved favorites Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry and Walk Like a Man, while Bwarie’s act two solo, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, is stunningly poignant – made more so by director Des McAnuff’s powerful staging.

Randy Falsetta, The show was energetic and fast-paced. We were captivated throughout Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall; the four acts which allowed a brief intermission at its midpoint. The audience was delighted as they witnessed the birth of the group’s classics “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Walk Like A Man”, “Sherry” and the unforgettable “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”. This was by far the highlight of the evening. To not only hear, but to understand the creation of a soundtrack for a generation was every fans dream.

With the beautiful Fisher Theatre and all its splendour “Oh, What a Night” you’ll have indeed!

  3. What a wonderful treat to hear the music and story line of the JERSEY BOYS! I absolutely loved the performances, especially Joseph Leo Bwarie. The crowd was standing for the last few songs; we didn’t want it to end. Bravo for a fantastic show!
