Jersey Boys First Natl Tour Heads to Calgary June 28-July 15!

June 27th, 2012

The JERSEY BOYS first national tour plays the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary beginning tomorrow, June 28 through through July 15. Stephen Hunt of the Calgary Herald has a marvelous in-depth preview in his interview with director Des McAnuff and Joseph Leo Bwarie! Here’s a sneak peek:

Jersey Boys is that rarest of jukebox musicals: not only is it filled with the Four Seasons’ impressive roster of 27 hit songs (Sherry, Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You, and many others), but it also tells a gritty story about Valli and the other members of the Four Seasons and their struggles to emerge from their rough-and-tumble New Jersey origins.

The good news, director Des McAnuff says, is that finding Frankies has evolved since the show was launched eight years ago.

“My friend the casting director Tara Rubin and I were talking about that (recently),” says McAnuff, “(how in) the early days of putting the show together, there was great fear at the time that there would only be one person that could play the part.

“I remember, actually, (having) quite animated discussions about this,” he says, without stating the subtext: where in the world are we going to find an ample supply of Frankie Valli look-alikes who — oh yes — have a four-octave vocal range that can stand up to the rigours of performing six nights a week?
