Jersey Boys: Great Songs & Story!
May 6th, 2009The Ledger.com’s John DiDonna has a terrific preview story about JERSEY BOYS–the national tour production that is playing in Orlando at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre through May 24.
DiDonna gives readers the behind the scenes stories of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and the beginnings of JERSEY BOYS, which had its world premiere in October 2004 at La Jolla Playhouse. Additionally, Matt Bailey, who portrays Tommy DeVito in this production, gives his thoughts on the show’s appeal.
The show is an all-American story with universal appeal: the struggle, rise, and eventual success of the “underdog,” in this case, our heroes being a group of blue-collar boys from the “wrong side of the tracks.”
Actor Matt Bailey sees this as one of the greatest selling points of the show:
“These guys were chipping away at the block for years, a bunch of guys off the street, and it shows how they grew together, grew musically, and finally found something that worked and used that,” he said. “You root for these guys.”

Great article except for saying “Gaudio” was a name heard in the “Old Neighborhood”.

Hah! Well Gladys, the funny thing is I knew about three Gaudios! In Bensonhurst! So it was not a joke – it was the absolute truth! Thanks for the props on the article though – Matt was a great interview and gave some great insight!
