Jersey Boys in Tampa–Strong Story with Great Music!
February 19th, 2008Jay Handelman of the HeraldTribune.com raves about Jersey Boys in Tampa! He states that you don’t need to travel back to late December 1963 to have that elated feeling once again. Just spend an evening with the musical Jersey Boys and enjoy the ups and downs in the careers of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Listen closely and you’ll hear singing all around you (from audience members who get too caught up in the spirit) as the cast runs through the Four Seasons catalog, from “Sherry” to “Who Loves You.”
Unlike so many other jukebox musicals that throw catchy songs into insipid stories, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice have a strong, poignant tale to tell about the Jersey Boys themselves, one that only the most ardent fans know much about. And the writers let the characters tell the story themselves. Each of the original Four Seasons — Valli, composer Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi — get their chance to tell their version of the story, or their side of events depicted by others.
