Matt Byrne states that JERSEY BOYS is theatrical dynamite. Here’s a sneak peek of his fantastic review of the production in Adelaide:

We see how four guys from unfashionable Jersey took their sound from the corner streetlight to the international spotlight, but couldn’t leave behind their delinquent roots.

Jeff Madden makes a formidable Frankie Valli, capturing the vulnerability, loyalty and heart-wrenching falsetto of a man torn between family and destiny. Anthony Harkin makes the most of streetwise Tommy DeVito’s conflicted role of group creator and inhibitor.

Glaston Toft’s influence runs deep as the velvet-voiced, wryly witty bass Nick Massi, the ultimate team man.

But it is Declan Egan as solid-gold songwriter Bob Gaudio whose enthusiasm and summery stage presence really sets the show alight.

Well done also to Adelaide’s Michael Griffiths as well-heeled hit detector Bob Crewe, Enrico Mammerella in a range of authority roles and Lisa Adam as Frankie’s long-suffering spouse, Mary Delgado.

Ron Melrose’s tight musical direction and stunning arrangements, combined with Serge Trujillo’s sizzling choreography and Klara Zieglerova’s dazzling design, complete the perfect package.
