Jersey Boys Is Set to Rock Vegas in ’08!

September 18th, 2007

According to Chris Jones of Variety.com, the right kind of legit is still thriving in Sin City after some very lean seasons.

“Shows in Vegas mostly have moved back to a Broadway kind of schedule,” says Scott Zeiger, whose partnership with the entertainment-heavy Venetian Hotel and the Las Vegas Sands Corp. has made the former Clear Channel exec perhaps the leading current player in Strip legit. “Shows aren’t the only entertainment option anymore. This is a dynamic, changing market and the rules are constantly evolving.”

The major legit opening in Vegas of the 2007-08 season is Jersey Boys, a partnership between Zeiger, the Las Vegas Sands Corp. and the original Broadway producers. Beginning in spring, the Four Seasons tuner will play a 1,650-seat custom-designed theater at the new high-end Palazzo Hotel, going up next to the Venetian.

“It will be a beautiful space with a lobby that complements the experience of the show,” Zeiger says.

Jones adds that the production will probably be fairly close in execution to the hit Broadway original (“No crazy chandeliers,” Zeiger says), with a few additional bells and whistles.

The countdown to Jersey Boys in Vegas has begun–April is less than seven months away! Wonder what “additional bells and whistles” will be added in Sin City?

  1. Can anyone tell me where the cast of the Jersey Boys which includes Jarrod Spector will be performing?
I just watched a preview of the cast performing at the Curran Theatre and I didnt see any of the cast from the performance at the Emmys. I want to definitely see one of their performances when I visit the mainland in December or January. I am coming from Hawaii and wanna make sure I get to see the cast including Jarrod. Thank you.

  2. Jarrod is currently on vacation this week, but is featured with the cast in SF. The show closes here on 9/30 because they will start a long run in Chicago shortly afterwards. During the time you arrive here, SF may host the Las Vegas cast, which will not feature Jarrod, but am sure that the production and casting staff have great talent to keep the Jersey Boys legacy alive!

Every cast has their own identity and style, but never fail to impress the fans with their showmanship. You’ll be in for a real treat seeing any of them in person!

  3. I guess being “fairly close” means that the show won’te be truncated. I believe every show I’ve seen in Vegas has indeed been shortened so that the patrons have more time to gamble. Anyone know?

  4. The cast which includes Jarrod will be closing their engagement at the Curran Theater in San Francisco on Sept. 30. They will then start previews in Chicago at the Lasalle Bank Theater on Oct. 5th. Opening night will be on Oct. 14th and is booked until Apri ’08. There is a good chance however, that they will extend.

  6. Hi Howard: Brickman & Elice, plus GAVA and Des probably will not shorten the Las Vegas production and keep it the same length as the OBC and tours.

You may be totally right about getting people in and out of the theatres quick just go get them back to the tables….. Just like the main theatre at Caesars Palace, the house doors may be bordered by slot machines…..

  7. The only thing to add to this speculation about show times is that on the nights where there are two shows, they are at 7 and 10 pm. If there is no intermission, the show is 2 hours and 15 minutes long. That leaves 45 minutes to get people out, clean up, and get people seated for the late show.

  8. Shows in Vegas are 95 minutes. They’re going to probably cut it down. That’s what they did to Phantom Of The Opera. It’s some sort of rule that a show can’t go over 95 minutes or else they have to pay the crew and/or actors extra every night.

  9. Thank you for the information provided regarding Jarrod Spector, cast and crew. I really want to see the cast which includes Jarrod so I guess I will have to find a way to get something for Chicago. I found tickets for October 5th, what would that day consist of, will the whole cast be there too? I love the oldies but this cast brought another life to it!

  10. John Michael Dias performs Wednesday and Sunday matinees, so you should be fine. However, John is also the first cover Frankie, so if Jarrod’s out, John will be on for him. Don’t worry — the rest of the cast is excellent and even if you don’t see Jarrod, you’re guaranteed to have a good time. :)

  11. John Michael Dias, Steven Goldsmith and John Michael Coppola are Jarrod’s alternates and understudies. They’ve all been proven to be capable in handling the “Frankie” role as good as anyone taking the stage, so you’ll definitely be treated to an entertaining show, and especially not to forget the “Jersey Girls”, who are exceptional quick change artists! It’s a lot of fun seeing them change into various costumes and taking on so many personnas throughout that 2 1/2 hr. span…..

  12. Hi, Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) for the information you all provided. I’m trying to get as much in information I can before I make the trip, coming from Hawaii just to see the Jersey Boys will be a long plane trip and very expensive. I really didnt know about the Jersey Boys until I saw their performance at the Emmys and only heard of them here and there. My mom is from the good ol’ days so I grew up loving all the music and it just makes me all excited when the songs play every time. And Jarrod Spector, oh my goodness, so so handsome and just a powerful stage presence but the whole cast made me jump. I have already reserved seats for Thursday, January 3rd at 7:30pm. Orchestra Center. So wanting to make this trip worth while, and I completely agree that the show in itself is awesome and every person in the cast can hold it’s own but I really hope someone can tell me if Jarrod will be performing that night, the real incentive to making such a trip for an island girl like me. Thank you! ;)

  15. Kaila- trust me… this is a show that you do NOT see just once. Do whatever you need to- to get tickets for a second show while you’re there. (Not that two times is enough either.)

  17. Does anyone know who will be in the San Francisco cast for the holiday run? I’ve seen Chris Jones and Jarrod Spector 4 times and can’t wait for the 5th!
