Jersey Boys’ Major Economic Impact for Victoria

October 28th, 2010

News from GovMonitor: The smash hit Australian premiere season of Jersey Boys has generated an impressive $108 million in economic benefits for Victoria in just over a year.

Tourism and Major Events Minister Tim Holding said nearly 600,000 people attended the show, with 142,000 people, or almost 25 per cent, from interstate or overseas.

Jersey Boys producer Rodney Rigby said that Melbourne was a fantastic host city for their premiere season.

“The support that we received from the local community, the Victorian Government and the Victorian Major Events Company ensured Jersey Boys started on a high note,” Mr Rigby said.

“This is a great city for theatre and we are delighted to have performed to so many enthusiastic audiences in Melbourne.”
