Tonight through January 23, 2010, the JERSEY BOYS national tour will be playing in Detroit at the Fisher Theatre. Here’s a sneak peek into what reporters are saying about the blockbuster hit!

Lawrence B. Johnson, Detroit News
: Johnson spoke with Joseph Leo Bwarie, who plays the legendary Frankie Valli in the JB national tour. Bwarie states, “Nobody really sounds like Frankie, but we try. It’s a neat club to be part of.”

Bwarie adds, “It’s almost visceral, and it’s not a pretty picture. It really jumps past the fourth wall and into the audience. People come up and say it takes them back to the best time of their lives.”

John Monaghan, Freep.com
: Monaghan spoke with JERSEY BOYS writers Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, in addition to Joseph Leo Bwarie to find out why people have such a strong connection with the show. Though the “Jersey Boys” story is universal, the show’s writers think it will resonate with Detroit audiences.

Elice notes, “These guys came from North Jersey, an area certainly as rough as the roughest sections of Detroit. As they struggle to get out of the neighborhood, they begin to realize that maybe they can physically remove themselves from the neighborhood, but there are things about the neighborhood that they really can’t shake.”
