Jersey Boys National Tour Box Office Sizzles!
February 21st, 2009The JERSEY BOYS national tour is soaring at the box offices around the country! Here’s the latest box office news:
From Courant.com’s Behind The Curtain Blog: Big shows don’t cry.
Variety reports that the Hartford run of the national tour of “Jersey Boys” at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts is seeing record crowds.
For the second week of the show’s three-week run, ending Feb. 15, the show grossed $1,346,126. The capacity? $1,333,367.
From Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Theater Critic Alice T. Carter: Take the highly popular “Jersey Boys,” which completed a four-week run at the Benedum Center on Feb. 1 as a presentation of the PNC Broadway Across America — Pittsburgh series.
Despite the grim economy, “Jersey Boys” played to 97 percent of capacity.
It also added $12 million to the local economy. Of that, $400,000 was from amusement and parking taxes.
It created paychecks for union stage hands and kept them off the unemployment roles — a double benefit. It also kept restaurants, hotels and parking lots hopping with business during a forbiddingly frigid and icy January when no one wanted to venture out.
It’s obvious that Jersey Boys is a wonderful and highly effective economic stimulus package! I’d vote ‘yes’ for a lot more of THIS plan.
