Jersey Boys National Tour Delivers!

December 14th, 2006

The critics are giving a unanimous thumbs-up to Jersey Boys at the Curran Theatre. Here’s a bit of what Richard Dobbs of the Bay Area reporter had to say:

Even while acknowledging that the opening-night audience for Jersey Boys was thick with partisans, the roars that erupted at key moments can’t be chalked up to claque feedback. There’s something going on with this show — an alchemy of songs, story, and production — that starts with goodwill and winds up striking a chord with such force that it can leave an audience giddy.

Of course, there is the parade of hit songs recorded by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons that opens this door. Even those who bring no particular nostalgic affection for their music may find themselves warming to the material, thanks to the skill with which it is performed and, more importantly, the context director Des McAnuff and his co-creators have cannily provided.
