Jersey Boys Phenomenal in Pittsburgh!
January 12th, 2009Jean Horne of the Tribune-Review tells readers to massage the Master Card and run, do not walk, to see the phenomenal production of JERSEY BOYS!
Oh, what a night! Dazzling, electrifying, over the moon and the hit songs keep coming in “Jersey Boys” that opened Friday night at the Benedum Center. The rags-to-riches story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons tells us about one of the most successful 1960′s doo-wop groups to make it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. After winning four Tonys on Broadway, you could also say the Jersey in its title gave the Garden State more to cheer about than the Meadowlands.
High production values, slick staging, a big falsetto and terrific songs like “Sherry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Rag Doll” and, right, “Oh What a Night” held us captive in a state of delight without skipping a beat. For two hours and 30 minutes, the musical telescopes the group’s popularity into four seasons with show-stopping performances that make your heart race and your ears stand on end.
AMAZING. I cannot wait until I see it again. I never saw a show where the audience couldn’t wait to clap and cheer, the theatre exploded. Let’s not forget the ‘curtain call’ when the audience was singing and dancing in the aisles. Huge fun, a proud night to be from Pittsburgh.I cannot believe I had the privlidge to see that much talent on one stage. AMAZING!
