Jersey Boys Plays at New Haven’s Shubert Theater, Tonight through October 7!

September 25th, 2012

The JERSEY BOYS second national tour plays the Shubert Theater tonight through October 7 and reporter Joe Meyers has a fascinating write-up about the show and some JB-related events from five years ago:

Five years ago, the creators of “Jersey Boys” used the Shubert Theater in New Haven to prepare the national touring production that has been breaking box office records around the country ever since.

Because of its classic prosenium design, the historic venue was perfect for putting together the technical elements that would make it possible to tour the Broadway hit — to make sure the set and lighting and sound design elements were ready for the rigors of the road.

The staff spent a month rehearsing the scene changes — and the actors — but the public was only invited in for two technical rehearsals, where the company received cues from the director.

Shubert audiences will have a chance to see a more polished version of the Tony-winning show when the national touring company begins a two-week run, starting Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Theater spokesman Anthony Lupinacci noted that the demand for “Jersey Boys” in New Haven was so strong that the theater decided on a two-week booking for the show, the longest run for any touring show to play that venue in many years.
