Jersey Boys Remains Satisfyingly Crisp & Tight at Kravis Center!

December 23rd, 2012

Hap Erstein gives a big thumbs-up to the JERSEY BOYS return to the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach:

Director Des McAnuff stages the show with a cinematic flow and kinetic energy which makes the few moments of dramatic stillness all the more effective. He is aided by the precision song delivery moves devised by choreographer Sergio Trujillo and the kinetic Erector Set set of Klara Zieglerova.

The role of Frankie Valli calls for a very specific diminutive stature and a freakish, high-pitched, nasal voice. It gets them both in Brad Weinstock (spelled by Hayden Milanes at most matinees and Sunday evenings), who also has the acting chops needed in the darker second act. The rest of the group — Jason Kappus, Brandon Andrus and Colby Foytik — sings well too, replicated in that distinctive Four Seasons sound as well as on occasional spotlight solos.

Even several years into its national tour, when many shows begin to fray, “Jersey Boys” remains satisfyingly crisp and tight.
