Bob Gaudio, the songwriter behind Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, still smiles in disbelief at the phenomenal success of “Jersey Boys,†the monster hit that tells their story in words and that era-defining, chart-topping sound.
In October 2004, Gaudio and Valli sat together in the Mandell Weiss Theatre of La Jolla Playhouse during the show’s opening night. The pair – whose ongoing deal had been sealed with a handshake more than 40 years before – heard the rousing reception that greeted every number.
