Jersey Boys ROCKS Atlanta!

June 5th, 2009

Critics all over Atlanta are singing praises for the JERSEY BOYS national tour! Below are the latest:

Susan Asher of AtlArtsReviews.Blogspot.com:

The national touring company of “Jersey Boys,” now playing at The Fox Theatre, is one of the best shows I’ve seen in years.

The script, written by Woody Allen collaborator Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, a former advertising man, is scintillating and witty. The music is so spectacular that I was sure part of it had been a recording of the original band. I checked and it’s not. Joseph Leo Bwarie, who plays Frankie and played him in the original Las Vegas cast, has a voice range that extends from tenor to soprano, and when he sings the sound stems straight from his heart. He sang the most beautiful rendition of the jazz standard “There I Go Again” I’ve ever heard. If Frankie Valli ever looked and sounded as good as Bwarie, I know why ladies swooned.

Manning Harris of AtlantainTown.Blogspot.com:

“Oh, What a Night,” they sing, and it really is. The “Jersey Boys” juggernaut is unstoppable, and you might as well hop on now, while tickets are still available. Broadway’s Tony Award-winning Best Musical (2006) is making its Atlanta debut at the Fox with a cast every bit as good as the Broadway version I saw in New York in 2007.

“Jersey Boys” is the slickest, most professionally performed performed show you will see in Atlanta this year. With a book by Marshall Brickman (Woody Allen’s frequent writing partner) and Rick Elice, choreography by Sergio Trujillo, and direction by Des McAnuff, this show is a simple falling into place that takes your breath away. It’s also such a kick to see the audience response: Sometimes they can hardly stay in their seats—and this is during the show, not only at the curtain call.
