Jersey Boys Sing “Bye Bye” to Katie Couric

May 31st, 2006

On her last day as co-host on NBC’s “Today Show,” Katie Couric was serenaded by some of the most outstanding entertainers, including Tony Bennett and Martina McBride. But–NBC saved the best entertainment for last! Katie’s co-host Matt Lauer introduced Jersey Boys as one of Katie’s favorite Broadway musicals! Katie, and probably the entire crowd, looked as if they were in heaven as they listened to the guys’ incredible harmonies–and Katie couldn’t stop smiling as they sang, “Bye Bye Katie (Katie Goodbye).” Following a break, Katie and the crowd were treated to another song by the JB cast, along with Harvey Fierstein. The guys sang a song written just for the occasion by Hairspray’s award-winning composer Mark Shaiman, called “Nothing Could Be Finer.” In case you missed it, or just need to see a repeat performance after a tough day, you can watch the clip on the Genuine Imitation Life Gazette site.

  1. The Boys sounded great. The rewrite of “Bye Bye Baby” to “Bye Bye Katie” was really clever. A sample:

“Why oh why do you have to leave-o
You’re the one girl in town we’d Tivo”

Wonder who did the new lyrics? Charles
