Jersey Boys’ Steve Orich Will Be Musical Director in Broadway’s Revival of Cole Porter’s Can-Can Next Year!

Exciting news on Playbill.com: A Broadway revival of the Cole Porter classic Can-Can will arrive on Broadway in spring 2014 and JERSEY BOYS’ Tony Award-nominated orchestator Steve Orich will be musical director!
Can-Can, presented by Jonathan Burrows, nephew of the musical’s original book writer, Abe Burrows, feature a revised book by David Lee (Two By Two and Gigi at Reprise, TV’s “Frasier†and “Cheersâ€) and Joel Fields (How I Fell in Love at Abingdon Theatre Company, TV’s “Ugly Betty” and “Raising the Bar”). Lee will also direct the production with choreography by Patti Colombo (Peter Pan).
Prior to the Broadway production, a workshop will take place in New York in October. Casting has yet to be confirmed.
Can-Can, according to press notes, is the story of “Pistache, the only café owner in Paris who dares to feature the scandalous and illicit Can-Can dance. Will her defiance of the law be the end of both her café and her chance for love?” The Cole Porter score features such songs as “I Love Paris,†“C’est Magnifique†and “It’s All Right With Me.”

I Have the cast for the revival are Becky Gulsvig as Pistache, Aaron Lazar as Aritside, Nick Adams as Etienne, Natalie Daradich as Claudine, Neil Haskell as Hercule, Cheyenne Jackson as Boris Adzinidzinadze, Zachary Levi as Hilaire Jussac and Matthew Morrison as Jean-Louis.
The ensemble comprises Whitney Cooper, Lauren Frodeman, Pia Hamilton, Morgan James, Lizzie Klemperer, Synthia Link, Ellyn Marie Marsh, Stephanie Martignetti, Jamile McGee, Paul HeeSang Miller, Alessa Neeck, Christopher Rice, Alex Ringler, Adam Roberts, Benji Schwimmer, Ryan Steele, Travis Waldschmidt and Troy Woodcroft.
