Jersey Boys–This Jukebox Musical Finally “Got it Right”

December 20th, 2005

In today’s edition of the Epoch Times, Judd Hollander states that the jukebox genre of musicals finally gets it right with Jersey Boys. It’s fun, a bit educational, and offers a very good time! Hollander thinks it was a smart twist to have each of the original group members tell their side of the story. He also thinks the strength of Jersey Boys comes from an exceptionally strong book, as well as the use of the band’s songs in the proper settings—such as nightclubs, recording studios, singing gigs—places where they actually would be sung, instead of just sticking them in willy-nilly in order to hang a plot. Hollander also praises Klara Zieglerova’s set design, Jess Goldstein’s costume design, Des MacAnuff’s direction, and Sergio Trujillo’s choreography.
