JLY & Matthew Scott Attend Rally to Support Paper Mill

April 10th, 2007

Theatermania.com reports that Paper Mill Playhouse alumni who have gone on to star on Broadway, including Jersey Boys’ John Lloyd Young and Matthew Scott, joined with local politicians, theater staff, and others on Monday night at a rally to support the financially desperate company. As of this writing, Paper Mill only has enough money to cover its payroll and keep its doors open through the end of the week. As previously reported, the theater began the season with a $2.8 million deficit which has not been compensated for by ticket sales or donations — and, so far, no bank has agreed on a loan to the Playhouse.

On his blog, John Lloyd Young said thank you to everyone who came out to the rally to save the Paper Mill Playhouse last night. And a special thank you to JERSEY BOYS fan, Howard Tucker, who gave up his ticket to this Thursday evening’s performance, last minute, for JLY to offer at the podium for a donation to Paper Mill. Mr. Tucker is in the banking world and is also helping Paper Mill with advice on how to secure further funding. They are still short of their fundraising goals. To donate, visit www.papermill.org,

  1. The Jersey Boys family once again rallies behind a great cause! With JLY, Matthew Scott, Howard Tucker and multitudes of committed fans and supporters, the future of PaperMill is in great hands. How about a benefit performance at the Playhouse by the many great actors who got their start at Papermill? I would think there could be several sold out performances. Money would be raised and a greater awareness would be created about the importance of saving the theater. My husband and I are ready to buy our tickets!

With so many wonderful programs for children, school and community outreach, and outstanding performances, the Playhouse must be saved.

  2. Howard, I know how hard it must have been to part with that precious ticket. You are a prince among men.
