JLY Named “Person of the Week” on ABC News
June 16th, 2006John Lloyd Young has had quite a week, to put it mildly! He won the Tony Award for Best Lead Actor in a Musical at the Tony Awards; the musical he stars in, Jersey Boys, picked up the top prize at this year’s Tonys; and he sung for the First Lady and Senate spouses at a luncheon at the White House. If that’s not enough for one week, as of this evening, “ABC World News Tonight” named Young the “Person of the Week!”
In the ABC News segment, anchor Charles Gibson told the audience that Young, who won top honors last week, has a fascinating story on his own. Gibson spoke to Young about his days as a struggling actor in New York, including his days as an usher at a Broadway theatre, how Young caught the acting bug as a kid in Upstate New York, his acting at Brown University, and his life as star in the megahit musical, Jersey Boys, where he plays the legendary Frankie Valli eight times a week.
Young told Gibson he’d like to play Frankie Valli on Broadway “as long as they’ll let him.”
