John Lloyd Young To Perform In Macy’s 4th of July Celebration!

BroadwayWorld.com reports that John Lloyd Young, in addition to fellow Tony Award-winners Anika Noni Rose (“Dreamgirls” film, Caroline, or Change) and Lea Salonga (Les Miserables, Miss Saigon) will perform as part of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Celebration in New York City at 9 PM.

The Macy’s website states: “The nation’s largest and most incredible birthday bash lights up the night sky with over 120,000 bursts of color, light and breathtaking pyrotechnics from around the world! Look to the night sky as vibrant blazes burst 1,000 feet in the air while the New York Pops serenade the celebration with a riveting soundtrack honoring America’s diverse people and places. Open your ears and heart to our whimsical fireworks soundtrack on radio station 1010 WINS or watch our star-studded NBC special live on Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 at 9 PM!” The New York Pops will be conducted by Rob Fisher.

The event will feature a tribute to the great American songwriter Stephen Foster. John Lloyd Young will perform “What a Wonderful World,” with arrangements by Ron Melrose and orchestrations by Steve Orich. Rose will perform “In Our Children’s Eyes” and Salonga will perform “Just Beyond the Dream.”

JLY will also be celebrating his birthday on July 4th!

  3. You know, Irene, until you pointed it out, I forgot that our country shares its birthday with John, so it’s even more appropriate that John perform.

    As an aside, I spoke with Chris Jones (Frankie in the National Tour) two weeks ago, and Chris couldn’t be more explicit in his gratitude for John’s paving the way in his Tony-winning role. To quote Chris exactly, “I have a huge admiration for the job that John has done, and I realize that without his efforts I might not even have a job right now.”

  4. Yay! John’s singing on the greatest holiday of our country! In addition, I feel so happy that he’s taken the job when he should be out having fun on his birthday. What a great guy! So 4th of July, a tribute to our nation with fireworks and JLY! What a wonderful world, indeed!
