November 20th, 2008

John Lloyd Young

Playbill.com has learned that Tony Award winner John Lloyd Young has landed a leading role in his first feature film! JLY will play the title character in the new comedy “Oy Vey My Son Is Gay.” The screenplay — penned by Evgeny Afineevsky, Joseph Goldman and Martin Guigui — won several screenwriting awards at film festivals this year, and the work is now being made into a feature film.

The Tony-winning star of Jersey Boys will be joined on screen by Saul Rubinek and Lainie Kazan, who will play his parents, as well as Carmen Electra and Vincent Pastore. Producers are currently in talks for the male actor who will star opposite Young. The film is described as “a heartfelt comedy about a close-knit family’s reaction to their beloved son coming out of the closet.” Producers are Evgeny Afineevsky, Svetlana Anufrieva, Rich Cowan and Alexei Diveyeff-Tserkovny. Production for “Oy Vey My Son Is Gay” is scheduled to begin next week in Washington.

Congratulations to John Lloyd on this marvelous new project!

  8. Nu, John Lloyd? So happy to hear the news…I’m not getting any younger, you know. Can’t wait for my opening night souvenir face lotion, Oil of Oy Vay.

Looking forward to the opening night refreshments, John, even at the risk of a bialyache… Haven’t eaten since you left Jersey Boys…didn’t want to have anything in my mouth in case you should call…

Schlep like a mensch, JLY. And please remember that big goys don’t cry! Move over, Jackie Mason, there’s a new kid on the block!!

  11. Hey Jay:

Thanks for the memories of Jersey Boys. The memories do linger on, but delighted to know that their are some new wonderful ones on their way that will never replace the old ones but will add to the richness of the experience of meeting you and the thrill of being luck enough to see your amazing talent so many times as Frankie.
Coincidentally, I plan on visiting Israel soon, so it will be fun enjoying your new movie which we will add to the anticipation of my new adventure in visiting the land of my ancestors. Meanwhile, Aruba here we come early December. Your new calendar will be forthcoming before the new year! Enjoy!

Le Chaim, Double Chai and Mazel Tov to my favorite Jersey Boy “JLY” as Sid likes to call you.

  12. My son, the actor! You are all over the [character] map like a… professional. Very exciting news for Jewish mothers and the rest of your vast fan base.

A comedy, huh? I guess every family has its share of crazy humor. Hmmm, I wonder if they need any extras up there in Washington. If so, call… ya nevva call!
